Co-written by Sofia Garcia and Saeid Asgarian, “Home” is a darkly absurd play that draws inspiration from the surreal worlds of Franz Kafka to tackle the profound issue of colonization. Developed by Roommate Art Company, the story follows a woman whose quiet life is upended by a strange family who invades her house, aggressively asserting an unyielding claim that her home actually belongs to them. As the boundaries of reality and ownership blur, she is forced into a psychological battle to defend her space. Utilizing the company’s signature experimental approach, the production invites audiences to critically examine these themes through a localized, deeply personal lens. Home will hit the Calgary stage for an anticipated audience of over 400 theatre-goers, premiering in November 2024 at cSPACE Marda Loop and continuing in April 2025 at Vertigo Theatre.
